About

A full-day experiential training on using tarot imagery, archetypes, and creative metaphor to deepen therapeutic work around sexuality, intimacy, and relational dynamics. Through a sex-positive and trauma-informed lens, it integrates Jungian concepts of archetype and symbol with contemporary sex therapy and expressive arts practice, with didactic teaching, experiential exercises, and guided art-making.

Learning objectives

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

1. Describe how symbolic and archetypal imagery (such as tarot) can be used to explore sexuality, intimacy, and relational dynamics in clinical or educational settings.
2. Identify ethical, cultural, and spiritual considerations in using tarot and other intuitive tools in sexuality-related clinical work with diverse clients and communities, including awareness of personal bias, cultural appropriation, and inclusive practice.
3. Differentiate between metaphorical, symbolic, and clinical uses of imagery in therapy and education, and assess their appropriateness for supporting sexual and relational growth.
4. Apply at least two creative or metaphor-based interventions that facilitate exploration of sexual identity, desire, or intimacy concerns using art-making or tarot imagery.
5. Explain how intuitive reflection and creative art-making can support nervous system regulation, trauma integration, and reconnection to pleasure and embodiment.
6. Demonstrate self-reflective and relational awareness in integrating creative or intuitive methods into professional sexual health work, consistent with AASECT's ethical principles.

Presenter

Rebecca Bloom, MA, LMHC (she/her)

Licensed mental health counselor in South Seattle specializing in adults with complex post-traumatic stress, combining talk, art, and somatic methods. Rebecca presents internationally on tarot in therapy, is trained in Level 2 Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, attended the CIIS postgraduate sex therapy program, and taught for eight years in Antioch Seattle's Master's in Art Therapy program.

Sex therapists, sexuality educators, and other mental health professionals interested in creative, culturally attuned, and embodied approaches to sexual health and pleasure.

Obsessions and compulsions can look a great deal like sensory seeking, intense interests, and difficulty with change. Three hours on telling them apart, adapting the measures you already use, and building exposure plans that fit the client's neurotype.

Learning objectives

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

1. Distinguish obsessions and compulsions from common neurodivergent traits, including sensory seeking, focused or intense interests, and difficulty with change, and identify at least three ways the two presentations can look alike.
2. Analyze at least two standard OCD assessment measures and identify two to three modifications that account for a client's neurotype.
3. Evaluate how a client's neurotype affects exposure therapy, and design an exposure plan that specifies in vivo exposure, imaginal exposure, or a rationale for not using exposure.

Katie Jo (KJ) Glaves, MA, LMFT, CMHS

A Washington licensed marriage and family therapist who has specialized in work with neurodivergent children, teens, and families for more than ten years. Katie Jo holds an MA in Psychology from Antioch University Seattle, completed the International OCD Foundation's Pediatric Behavior Therapy Training Institute, and is associate faculty at City University of Seattle and a Senior Lecturer at Antioch University Seattle.

Counselors, marriage and family therapists, social workers, psychologists, and school and agency clinicians who see neurodivergent clients. Assumes working familiarity with OCD and with exposure and response prevention. Associates and students welcome.

2. Examine consent as an ongoing clinical practice influenced by power, choice, transparency, context, and role clarity, including how clinical specialization such as sex therapy shapes role clarity and context.
3. Apply a practical consent guide to identify when a clinical situation requires greater attention and determine an intentional and ethically responsive next step.

Fiona O'Farrell, PhD, LMFT, CST-S (they/she)

A systemic therapist, clinical sexologist, supervisor, and educator with more than fifteen years in systemic therapy, sex therapy, and anti-oppressive practice, and former Department Chair of the MFT master's program at Pacific Lutheran University. Fiona holds a PhD in clinical sexology and is an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist, AASECT Approved Sex Therapy Supervisor, AAMFT Approved Supervisor, and Washington State Approved Supervisor.

Dr. Sampson is a licensed marriage and family therapist and AASECT Certified Sex Therapist and Supervisor (CST-S) whose work integrates systemic therapy, relational ethics, and clinician sustainability. Tim Repass is Safety Officer and Director of Strategy & Operations at Northwest Relationships, where he leads workplace safety planning and training.
